The benefits of ceramic tile
The variety of tile colors, shapes, and sizes currently on the market presents
a creative challenge to designers- both professional and amateur. You can find
glazed ceramic tiles in a rainbow of fashion colors. Hues range from quiet
neutrals o blazing primaries, from pretty pastels to dramatic dark colors.
Unglazed tiles, once featured only in terra-cotta, now come in a full range
of earth tones, from the palest sand to the darkest brown. There are tiles
with dainty floral decorations, crisp stripes, delft motifs, and numerous other
designs. Some tiles are handmade with uneven edges and surface variations.
Others are mass-produced to look as if they were handcrafted. Many tiles are
textured; both for better grip underfoot and for an interesting look. There
are an infinite variety of sizes and shapes readily available. Sizes range
from 1 to 12 inch squares; shapes include rectangles, hexagons, circles, and
octagons.
Ceramic and stone tiled walls, floors and counter tops are easy to
care for. Tile floors should be swept or vacuumed regularly
to remove gritty particles that might scratch them. Routine cleaning consists
of a quick wipe with a damp mop or a sponge. Even when neglected
for a long time, a good wash will usually bring back the sheen.
As long as the original installation was properly done and as long
as you do not get bored with the color or design, there is
no reason why a tiled floor should not last as long as your house. When selecting
tile, bear in mind that you will be living with it for a
very long time. Choose colors and plain designs that you think will still be
appropriate when it comes time to replace the furnishings.
Ceramic
tile looks so good that many people consider it a luxury product. Actually,
it is very affordable. In addition, an important consideration when weighing
the benefits of tile against other products is the return for your money. Floors
covered with ceramic tile, marble, slate, and related products are generally
associated with luxury living. Therefore an installation that looks professional
will almost certainly add to both the appeal and value of your house should
you decide to sell it.
